WS7 Exhast Gas Analyss

Exhaust Gas Analysis (Petrol only)

Make: Nissan      Model:   Cefiro         Year:  1996

1. With  the analyser probe sensitising normal air, what are the four Gas reading? Record the amount and then what it means:

CO  0.001  means: carbon mono oxide 0.001% are available in this air.

HC  19       means: Hydro Carbon HC 19 particles per million or 19 out of million particles are HC in ti's air.

CoO2  0.03 means:  Carbon dioxide 0.03% means there is CO2 in this air.

O2    21.44 means: Oxygen (21.44) O2 available in this air.

2, Start the engine idling cold, and record the Four Gas readings Explain  what is happening within the engine referring to the four gasses:

CO2 0.326   HC  99  CO2 14.46   O2 0.3

CO 0.326  the amount of HC is high and the cat has not warm up the percentage of CO2 1.46, so the engine is ruining rich and CO2  is good.

3. When the engine has warmed up record the Four Gas readings:
Explain what is happening within the engine referring to the four gas:

CO  0.489   HC 222    CO2  14.36    O2  0.80
Referring to the Four Gases the engine is in good condition, and the catalytic converter is start working, because the engine getting warm. .

4. Run the warm engine at 2500 RPM, record the Fuor Gas reading:
Explain what is happening within the engine referring to the four gases:
CO 1.253   HC 267   CO2 13.66   O2 689

Both CO and HC are increased it means the cat is working in good order.

6. At idle, create a lean condition with an air leak or vacuum leak, record the Four Gas reading:Explain what is happening within the engine referring to the four gases:

CO 0.081      HC 3806      CO2 3.65     O2 16.10
The HC amount high as there is not enough air to burn rethe HC gases and CO is low. The engine is running lean as more uncontrolled air entire due to air leak.

7. Accelerate the engine, by blip ping the throttle a few times (don not rev too high undamaged the engine) and watch how the gas readings change. Record the four gas reading when the CO is highest:
Explain what is happening within the engine referring to the four gases:

 CO 3.683     HC 504     CO2 11.24      O2 2.83
In this reading both CO and HC are high the engine is ruining very reach and without acceleration more air comes in, but not enough time to burn all the HC and we  high percentage of O2 in the tail pipe.

9. If you can get to it, disconnect the injector harness connector from one injector on an engine that has one injector for every cylinder: Record the Four Gas readings as the engine idle:
Explain what is happening within the engine referring to the four gases:

CO 0.346    HC 19    CO2 0.11     O2 17.72
We disconnected the injector harness has disable that injector HC is 19 ppm which is low, because one cylinder does not get HC, whatever air entire that cylinder goes out which out any ignition that is why we get 17.72 % of oxygen which is high amount.

Return the vehicle to good condition and proper adjustment.

11. Explain the different readings you would get from a vehicle with a catalytic converter and a vehicle without one and why?
The vehicle fitted with catalytic converter produces less exhaust gas emission like HC, CO, and vehicle which is not fitted with catalytic converter produces HC, CO gases, because there is cat to convert the unburnt fuel to H2O. CO2, and N2.

12 Explain what light off point means and what happens?
Light off point means to get the catalytic converter works it is means the catalytic converter must get to a certain temperature to start work (get hot), to reduce HC and O2 to CO2 + H2O and N2.

13 On lambda, O2 sensors why do they have1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 wires and what do these extra wires do?
The four wires and each wire has the following function.
1. Signal
2. Signal ground
3. Heater supply
4. Heater ground

  1. I would have liked a more in depth explanation on each of the different states of engine ruining. Why CO are High and HC are low what happening in the combustion chamber to cause this and why does this affect CO2 and O2
